Background

Maurice Rahming and Alida O’Neill incorporated O’Neill Electric Inc. in March of 1998. As steady growth and project successes multiply, O'Neill Electric Inc continues in its goals of growth and opportunity.

Mr. Maurice Rahming, formerly an electrician in the field has the knowledge and expertise. This compliments his great leadership skills and project management. Maurice officially left the field in 2000 to lead the company. He then acquired the majority shares in O’Neill Electric Inc. Our many successful projects fuel our desire and capability for more. Because of our great track record, our sales continue to grow, thus providing financial capabilities.

Maurice Rahming manages the day-to-day activities of O’Neill Electric Inc. as its General Manager. He owns 51% of the company and is the acting President of the Board of Directors. Alida O’Neill at 49%, is the Secretary-Treasurer of the Board of Directors, she is also in charge of all the accounting functions for the company.

Our office in Portland, Oregon houses a large supply bay as well as a main office. Our Vancouver, Washington office is able to store large equipment and specialty fabrication orders.

O’Neill Electric Inc has years of experience and expertise. We are open to new challenges and types of work. Our primary base is commercial: residential communities and industrial. With experience in everything from education, healthcare, transportation, technology, adult residence facilities and more. O'Neill shows that we can apply our professionalism and expertise to any project. O'Neill Electric is also certified and pre-approved to perform a wide array of government work.

O’Neill Electric Inc leads projects by designating the key management and personnel; resulting in accurate and on-time services. We utilize union employees as well as qualified subcontractors to meet the schedules and perform the quality of work that is crucial to the owners needs.

Experience in the Construction of Green Buildings

Construction of Green Buildings is part of our portfolio, so to speak. There is of course, the green building design; using resources that are kind to the environment, and then the act of building. Though most, if not all projects, are designed and built Green, we join as part of the Green Building Team. Various trades tend to work in specific areas, and in doing so, we work as an alliance with our fellow craftsmen to make sure all green building practices are adhered to and promoted.

Our own ‘Green” education is renewed often, with new information and suggestions as to how best to utilize and dispose of all materials, from earth to steel to wire.

We are proud to be living in a part of the world that is in the forefront of planning and sustainable resources. We utilize the information and knowledge of local support, ‘Green City’ newsletter from the City of Portland as well as the broader based government programs, such as the United States Green Building Council’s website.

Green Building education, care and planning go into all of our activities, whether partnering up with others or working alone on projects big and small.

MBE/DBE/ESB/WBE Utilization

O’Neill Electric Inc is a MBE/DBE contractor; number 2007. Through our designation, we have the opportunity to meet and work with many similarly certified contractors and suppliers. Our efforts are aggressive, to achieve a percentage of MBE/DBE/ESB/WBE suppliers and subcontractors per job. Some companies may find this a challenge; we find for us though, that because of our relationships through associations and mentoring programs, this happens naturally. Our percentage and participation is much higher than what would be considered the national average.

Workforce Training and Hiring Plan

O’Neill Electric Inc. is organized according to functional areas. Functional organization is the most effective form of organization because it is designed around the major functions of any company: general management, marketing and sales, operations, finance and administration. Functions and sub-functions translate into job positions that are clearly defined in terms of responsibilities, duties, and authority. Personnel are selected to fill these positions based solely on ability, knowledge and experience. Each individual who is assigned the authority and responsibility for a function is always held accountable for the performance of that function.

Safety

O’Neill Electric Inc. has an extensive safety plan. We ensure our employees have training through their education, regarding trade standards and safety. We also comply and encourage continued learning.

One of our recent projects; Avamere West Union, had 6,100 hours without incident. This is very fortunate and very typical.

We are active with Oregon OSHA and Saif Corporation’s Return To Work program. Whether we are the General on the project or a sub, our team participates in safety. On the job sites as well as conducting our own in house. Weekly safety meetings are noted and employees are given reminders and tips. The Pacific Northwest can be unique with its weather and climate; we continue to emphasize safety and knowledge. New information and training is passed on through paycheck disbursement and other means. Safety is a serious issue at O’Neill. Not only is our record free from incident at this point, but we want each of our employees happily going home at the end of the day, as well as their coworkers and fellow craftsmen.

Successes

At O'Neill, every project is a success because we manage it to be. We recently concluded a design-build 82 unit assisted living facility, Rosemont Commons Street Lighting and the Pioneer Courthouse Square remodel...to name just a few. We are also are honored to have received the Contractor of the Year award from the MBOC; Minority Business Opportunity Committee in October 2004.
